FGCU has no borders in recruiting student-athletes from all over the world to wear blue and green. I interviewed baseball player and 2009 Blue Jays draft pick Mike Reeves from Ontario and golfers Fabienne Haremza from South Africa and Lina Elmsater from Sweden.
Highlighted by 2008 Ryder Cup Captain Paul Azinger, FGCU baseball hosted Dinner on the Diamond and celebrity golf tournament in December. With each plate donated to FGCU Athletics, fans dined with MLB and PGA professionals: PGA Professional Derek Lamely, Cubs pitcher Casey Coleman, White Sox LHP Chris Sale, the Astros’ Rookie of the Year Chris Johnson, Pirates RHP Chris Resop and Indian’s first baseman Matt LaPorta.
